Open Studio: FREE/FORMS with Remy

Open Studio: FREE/FORMS with Remy

  • Lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Open Studio is a free, weekly movement offering for all bodies and ages, presented by the Studio at Pocketbook Baths.

Starting at 4pm, Studio Hour offers a soundtracked landscape for all forms of self-guided movement, or rest. Show up by 5:30, as we transition into a 90 minute artist-led workshop.

The lineup includes a rotation of unique events, bookended by recurring monthly rituals on the first and last Tuesday of each month.

Studio Hours: 4-5:30pm
Workshops: 5:30-7pm

FREE/FORMS
A monthly collective care ritual to shake off survival stress, stagnant tissues and sticky thoughts.

We'll arrive with a seasonal meditation.

Then, for one soundscaped hour of continuous shaking/rocking/bouncing/vibration, we loosen stuck fascia, lubricate the joints, unbind tense muscles, comb the nerves, circulate our waters, and breathe.

Movement is fully self-determined, so come as you are. Shake big or small, on your feet or on the floor. Experiment with effort and ease. Forget performance and skill. Notice that rest contains movement, and what starts to stir when you relax and let go.

Shaking up the cells and stories within, we invite new configurations of matter and meaning.

Tools: Shaking, Free Movement, Sensory Meditation, Drawing, Writing, Herbalism, Sound, Breath

From Remy

I'm an herbalist, movement artist, somatic facilitator, and the Director of Wellness at Pocketbook Hudson Hotel & Baths. Since 2013, I make herbal, written and movement-based meditations through my interdisciplinary care practice, GOODWITCH.

My research incorporates clinical and poetic herbalism, Five Element Theory, integral and kinetic anatomy, contemporary dance, Qi Gong, Tarot, Hermetic alchemy and astrology, and integrative somatics.

I’m curious about the relationship between the body and meaning, and shaping keys to help us access creative freedom and the joy of connection.

Health challenges and fluctuating abilities have long shaped my focus around accessibility and interdependence. All my work is collaborative and relationally-focused, because to become "aware" of our bodies is to feel the ways in which we are connected to the world around us.
